St. Cajetan of Thiene was born to a noble Italian family in 1480. He studied law but became a priest and founder of the Order of the Theatines (Cajetanians), the strict rules of which surpassed even those of the Order of Friars Minor of Francis of Assisi. The Theatines had to humbly wait for alms and rely on the Providence of God. Cajetan died in 1547 and was canonized in 1671. He is a protector against the plague. His attributes are a cross, winged heart, lily, birds, spikes and the horn of plenty.
