Entry Gateway - Prague Castle, First Courtyard
Prague Castle, First Courtyard
The entry gateway that separates the Court d´honneur of the Prague Castle and the Hradčany Square, was based on a plan by N. Pacassi from the second half of the 18th century as part of Theresian reconstruction of the royal residence; it is built on the site of a demolished armoury building and an old house of art collections administrator. The gateway is decorated with a Rococo grille with massive sculptures of Battling Giants (Titans); below them there are the stations of the Castle Guards. Orignal statues of the Giants by I. F. Platzer from 1761-62 were replaced in 1902 by loose variations by Č. Vosmík and A. Procházka.
